• In essentials - unity.
• In non-essentials - liberty.
• In all things - charity [i.e., love].

This was a motto of the Moravians, a group of Christians who lived in Europe in the 1800’s. They were active in sending out missionaries, had a twenty-four hour prayer chain that was unbroken for almost one-hundred years, and witnessed to John Wesley on board ship before he had come to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

What are the points we consider to be essential? As evangelical Christians, we believe that Jesus is the incarnate Son of God and the Bible is the Word of God - inerrant, and the absolute rule for faith and life. The one God - eternally existent in three persons - has created man in his image. Men have sinned, but God desires all men to be saved and has made salvation possible through the death and resurrrection of Jesus. To be saved, repentance and faith is necessary on our part.

As Francis Schaeffer stated, "The Bible is true truth but not exhaustive truth." Everything the Bible says is true, but the Bible does not speak about every thing we can know. As others have stated, all truth is God’s truth. We can learn many things from Christians whose theology differs from ours and even many things from non-Christians. But whatever we hear or read must be compared with the Bible, which is absolutely authoritative. We seek to maintain unity of spirit with fellow believers, while we work towards a unity of the faith. (Ephesians 4)
